ACSR Conductors (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced)

Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) conductors are a combination of 1350-H19 aluminum wires that are twisted into one or more layers around a central steel core with a circular cross-section. The steel core can consist of one or multiple strands (7, 19, and 37 strands). These conductors are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ASTM B230, ASTM B341, ASTM B232, ASTM B498, and ASTM B500 standards.

Many configurations of aluminum and steel layers and wires can be designed. To protect the steel core from corrosion, galvanizing or aluminizing coatings are used. Galvanized coating Class A is used in normal environments. If ACSR conductors are required to be used in highly corrosive environments, galvanized Class B or C wires or aluminum-coated steel are used. Generally, high-strength steel core with galvanized Class A coating is suitable for these conductors.
